Happenings

Well Ben is off in Billings again this week for his last bit of training. He has homework tonight! Ha, Ha! It never fails that something happens while he is gone. Today the sheep got out....for the second time in a week. Last time I hurt my foot and could hardly walk on it that night and most of the next day. This time it took mom, Craig, and myself 30 minutes to get them back in the pen. We chased them around the house, the shop, on the ditch, on the road, and in our field. We managed to corner them and Craig tackled one. We have been working with them every day trying to get them used to us, but they won't just walk up to us still. It is frustrating to say the least. I feel like if they get out again I will just let them run free...probably not the best idea, but it makes me smile to think about it.

Sheep

Ben finally got his market lamb. We went on Saturday to the Olsen farm to pick it out. She asked us if we were getting two, and when we looked puzzled, she explained how they eat competitively and will gain more weight. Since we had not planned on more than one, she sent us home with a small "bum" lamb on loan. We feed it and Ben will get to show this one also, then we give it back. He has been working well with them. We are trying to halter break them. I tell you, the little one is feisty! She jumps and bucks and tries to rub the halter off. Ben has his work cut out for him! We will keep you all updated often.

Easter

We had a fun Easter yesterday. The kids colored eggs on Saturday and they had the big egg hunt yesterday. Laney found the Golden egg that had $5 in it. The weather was beautiful! It was supposed to rain so we got lucky. After that, the kids helped ben wash his truck and get his things ready to go. He left after dinner for Billings where he will be training all week. We will miss him but at the same time are excited for him to start this grand adventure!

The big winner!

Railroad Job

Well, Ben finally got the call Saturday that he passed all the requirements and gets to start work! We are so excited. He starts his orientation on the 13th in Billings. He has to leave Sunday night and will be gone the whole week. Not sure where he will be after that, but he will be back in Billings the 3rd week again. It is going to be strange not having him home for dinner every night or just here to help when I need it. But, we know this is the best decision we could have ever made. Now I am trying to find a job, boy is it difficult!

Updates

Since I have been sick with the flu this past week, I haven't been posting as much. So I thought I would let everyone know what has been going on here.

First Ben Jr. He has finished with his basketball season. I think he enjoyed playing and will possibly join again next year. He has also started the 4-H sheep project. We are all excited. The boys have already begun the pen and shelter and should have it compleeted this weekend.(If the weather is nice) I have pictures I will post next time. We are also going to a livestock auction on Saturday to maybe pick his sheep. Other than that, he has baseball sign-ups tonight. He will be playing his second year of coach-pitch. Next year he will have to try out to make the team!

Delaney has been doing good also. She is enjoying the K-3 4-H program and getting to do lots of fun activities. She will also get to show Ben's sheep in a pee-wee class at the fair. I think she is excited about it. Also, one of her little friends is trying to talk her into joining her group for pig wrestling at the fair. I am going to try hard to talk her into that!

Ben is doing well. He has been working hard as usual and did a great job helping me out while I was sick. We are still waiting to hear about his start date with the railroad. Hopefully that will come soon.

As for me, other than being sick, I have just been busy here at the house. Doing chores, taking the kids to all their activities, and helping at the school. Soon I will have lots of planting to do! Also I have been looking for a part time job, so keep your fingers crossed for me.
